Department of Radiology

Out-patient Service

Patients with all types of speech and hearing problems are treated as outpatients. For Speech and Language Therapy, there are separate speech therapy cabins equipped with various diagnostic test materials and Speech therapeutic materials. Numbers of speech therapy cubicles are available as per Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) norms to give individual speech therapy to the patients. Students are trained practically to deal with children with different problems, using instruments. Students are also sent to different special schools (schools for mental retarded children and school for hearing impaired children) for observation and training. We have MOU for this purpose with special schools.

In-patient Service

Patients admitted in wards are referred to the department for speech therapy. Our staff and students will visit concerned wards to impart speech therapy in the respective ward.

Audiological services

Audiological unit involves in evaluation and rehabilitation of person with hearing problems of all ages from new born to old age. Various audiological evaluations were:

  • Pure Tone Audiometry
  • Speech Audiometry
  • Play Audiometry, Behavioural Observation Audiometry,  Visual Reinforcement Audiometry
  • Immittance Audiometry
  • Auditory Brainstem Response/ BERA
  • Otoacoustic Emission
  • New born Hearing Screening Program
  • Hearing Aid trail & fitting

Pure Tone Audiometry & Speech Audiometry:

Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) is the key hearing test used to identify hearing threshold levels of an individual, enabling determination of the degree, type and configuration of a hearing loss. This test is conducted in a sound-treated room.

Play Audiometry, Behavioural Observation Audiometry, Visual Reinforcement Audiometry:

If you suspect your child has hearing loss, this test is ideal for children between 2 and 5 years old. Audiometric tests measure your child's ability to discriminate between different sound intensities, recognize pitch, or distinguish speech from background noise. This test is conducted in a sound-treated room.

Immittance Audiometry:

Immittance Audiometry checks the level of lower-brainstem lesions. It is an objective test and it could be carried out for all ages. This test is conducted in a sound-treated room.

Auditory brainstem response/ BERA, Otoacoustic Emission:

The auditory brainstem response (ABR) is an auditory evoked potential extracted from ongoing electrical activity in the brain and recorded via electrodes placed on the scalp. This test can be carried out for newborns also.

Newborn Hearing Screening Program/ Early Detection of Hearing Impairment:

Newborn infant hearing screening programs are designed to identify hearing loss in infants shortly after birth. It helps in early detection and further early intervention.

Hearing Aid trail & fitting:

If a hearing aid would be beneficial, this trail is important because it allows to evaluate which type of hearing aid is beneficial for the client.
