SRM Autonomous Underwater Vehicle consists of 15 students from various departments of Engineering and Technology supported by mentoring professor Mrs. Annapurani Panaiyappan. The team offers a unique opportunity for students to gain experience in state of the art underwater AUV technology.
The vehicle has received support from industry professionals due to our excellent performance and the team was declared as the Winning Team at the Students Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge 2013 organized by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) for being among the top teams in the country and we were first timers at the competition.
SRMAUV Team has registered for the AUVSI Foundation and ONR's 17th International RoboSub Competition to be held from July 28 to August 3, 2014 in SSC Pacific TRANSDEC, San Diego, CA. The team has designed a vehicle for the competition, SEDNA. The design is a complete overhaul of the 2013 vehicle and includes major Mechanical, Electrical and Software upgrades that enable the vehicle to perform complex competition tasks. The control capabilities of the vehicle have been improved to provide active Yaw, Pitch, Surge and Heave orientation control.
The incorporation of a Doppler Velocity Log has enabled closed loop velocity control for the vehicle. The software system of the vehicle has been upgraded with improved vision algorithms and a transition to a more modular software framework. Custom electronic boards have been fabricated this year for optimal space utilization.
All the best to SRMAUV Team!!
